Over in Dover.

Today we spent the day with Garry’s sister Lorraine and her husband Keith. We were up nice early to catch a glimpse of the white cliffs before we docked... the entrance into where we docked was really narrow and the wind was blowing a gale.... we even had a tug up by our nose to give us nudge here and there as we needed it....

We were one of the first off the ship and only had to wait a short time before the rellies turned up.  The sight of a nice warm car was very welcoming.

We decided to head off towards Canterbury. Once there we parked and walked into the walled city.  Being a Sunday EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED at least at Canterbury only until 11 am. Hmm but it was 8.30 am. So we walked around thinking that we could see the Cathedral.... nup... closed till 12 noon ... It was a struggle but we did finally find a cafe open and we sat down and had coffee....

More walking around and looking at all the old original buildings.  All identifiable by the plaque that is displayed on each.... Eventually we decided that we should move on and we took the drive to Rye.... Why didn’t we do this earlier.... what a gorgeous little village... capped off with a fair and a raft race.  We decided that we would head up to the village itself and wander around the lanes and shops until we found a little typical pub and had a typical Sunday roast for lunch. We loved this little town and could have easily have spent the day there...

Instead we were pretty keen to get back so we could visit Dover Castle.  This was my first castle ... it may not have been Leeds (closed cause of weekend music festival) but it was pretty impressive to me.... a lot of the rooms were done up just as they would have been back in their day... Even as far as having play actors in costume chatting and interacting with the visitors.  There was lots more to see but with the weather the way it was (torrential at one stage and the wind... don’t talk about the wind) uncomfortable walking around.

We had a great day and we really enjoyed catching up with Lorraine and Keith. We look forward to meeting up with them again next year when they come to Australia.

Tonight there was to be a big British Sail away party up on deck.  The weather was looking terribly threatening and boy it was cold.... But at least we got one in as oppose to missing out in Sydney, although it really did look like that the Crew Staff way out numbered passengers.  They gave us all British Flags to wave, served us free Champoo and they played all those old British Tunes that those only a little old than knew.

One funny thing happened... Garry and I were sitting around the table with 2 other new couples... when Barbara ( Our favourite cruise director staff) walked pass I thought I would  introduce her to the newbies.... Barbara smiled pattered Garry on the Shoulder and said “Welcome aboard “.......
