We are the Kings of Mykonos.....

I was so excited I couldn’t sleep the night before.... Hey! we are going to Greece!!

This was the first of our 3 tender ports. The plan was to be off early and  do the walking tour I downloaded from the internet.  All was loaded on iphone and the map had  been printed for months...

We went ashore with Ros and Arnold... and oh oh  we are dropped off to a different place to where the walking tours starts... That is ok as you just start it from the point closest to you on the map....

As we walked towards the town we were met by 2 of the three famous pelicans of Mykonos.... Now we don’t know who was who,  but they were either Petros, Irene or Nicolas.....

In the excitement of seeing the pelicans not only did I lose the map of our walking tour, but I gave up on the recordings themselves and we just followed our noses around the town.... Beating the crowds we meandered around the narrow cobblestone laneways passing homes and churches.... always lots of churches.....

Following the shore line we ended up at little Venice ... as it was so early there were not customers at the many cafe’s or taverna’s, just the owners cleaning and setting up for the days trade.  A bit further along we found the famous Mykonos Windmills..... a true trade mark of this island.

No matter where you walked or which turn you took you knew that you would never get lost, as they say, all roads lead to Rome or in this case Mykonos harbour...... We stopped and had a coffee at a quaint little cafe and we shared a yummy Custard Pie called “Bugusta”.

It was hard to resist the shops in Mykonos especially after finding a couple of pieces of jewellery I would have loved.... but common sense prevailed and the fact that we were on a very commercial Island with exorbitant prices helped me decide against it....

Once back at the water front we decided to have lunch.  We ordered Souvlaki, calamari, mussels and a greek salad that we washed down with ice cold beer and wine.  As they say, when in Greece do as the Greeks do ....... and drink ouzo and that is exactly what Ros and Garry did.

Can’t be in the Aegean with taking a swim......  But as we didn’t have any swimmers a paddle was going to have to suffice.... The water is so clean and refreshing you just wanted to dive in....

This was only a short visit as the ship was leaving at 2pm....... So as we jumped onto the last tender we vowed once again that this was one place we wanted to visit again...
