MELBOURNE CUP AT SEA

One of the activities on the ship is the “Dicey Wooden Horse Racing”. To add a little spice to the event on one of the days they auction off each of the horses and the money raised becomes the prize pool for the owners .... There are six horses and the prize pool will be around $450 for this particular race.

Our dinner table decide to put in and purchase one of these horses.... we managed to snap up Horse no 1 and name it “Semplay Shementay Magistralee” a phrase coined by Maurizio our head waiter, which means “Best of the Best”

We spent the morning in Dennis and Anthea’s stateroom decorating our thoroughbred in our jockey colours of black and orange. Well the girls and Ray did....  The rest of the boys sat and drank port.... did I mention that this was before lunch.

When it was time we all gathered and paraded our horse through the ship to the Vista lounge. We all sat in the Owners Private Box sipping champagne to cheer our stallion on.  But alas after a slow start we failed to finish in a place.

But all is not lost as he will be starting in the Mumbai Cup in a few days time....
